American Family Association has an article on
their web site titled, “Abercrombie & Fitch pitches new trashy T-shirts
to America's youth,” from September 9, 2009.
“Abercrombie
& Fitch (A&F) continues its pattern of pushing pornographic-themed
material into mainstream America. Abercrombie & Fitch has just begun
offering their "New College" line of T-shirts.
The
first A&F T-shirt pictures a young girl opening her blouse - exposing
herself. A&F titles the image: "Show the Twins".
The
second picture is of a female running nude. A&F titles it: "Female
streaking encouraged."
The
next Abercrombie & Fitch T-shirt is entitled: "Female Students Wanted
for Sexual Research."
Abercrombie
& Fitch does not merely sell a popular line of clothing – they sell a
lifestyle. And because A&F clothing is popular among teens and college
kids, the influence of their sex-as-recreation lifestyle is widespread.”
AFA has a link to pictures of those shirts.
We have often said that most of the harmful
education in the public schools does not occur in the classroom but in the
culture. The students don’t pay much attention to what goes on in the
classrooms, anyway. The greater damage to young people occurs because of the
destructive culture that pervades the public schools. We mentioned before that
some friends of ours went to see what they thought was a family movie. As soon
as they got their popcorn and popped in their seats, a lesbian scene popped up
on the screen. As they left the movie, they saw that the theater was full of
young girls, who weren’t leaving. They were soaking it in. That then becomes
the culture of the schools.
The same thing is true about these A & F
products. A & F stands not only for Abercrombie & Fitch but also for
Awful & Filthy. Their catalog has been known for basically being
pornographic. They have deliberately taken that marketing approach,
sell clothes to young people by selling licentious sex to young people. Their
latest products, then, are those just discussed by AFA, and those products will
be in the halls of the schools this fall.
The public school culture is based on the
governing premise of the government schools, that
evolution is true, that God does not exist, and no teaching of Him can be allowed
in the schools. Once that premise is established, then gross immorality
follows.
Young people in that culture absorb the thinking
that God does not exist. They think there is no law governing human behavior.
They think that whatever they want to do is all right, just an expression of
personal choice. Then they naturally do what is evil, and their lives are destroyed,
to whatever degree.
The last thing that young, unmarried people need
is being exposed to sexual temptation. Yet that is what they are constantly
surrounded with. Young people should not be listening to audios that promote
fornication, they should not be watching TV shows that glamorize garbage, and
they should not watch movies that shove sex down their throats. That’s just
obvious to any halfway sane parent. They also should not be in a public school culture
that is full of all of that. People are innately evil. The carnal or natural
mind is enmity to God. When a mind that tends toward evil is surrounded by an
evil culture, what usually happens? The temptation is usually overwhelming. That’s
why Yahweh told Israel not to leave the Canaanites in the land, lest they pick
up their ways. They did leave them in the land and they did pick up their ways.
The same thing happens in the anti-God public schools.
The AFA article concluded, “The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention reports that
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) remain a major public health challenge in
the United States. CDC estimates that approximately 19 million new infections
occur each year— almost half of them among young people 15 to 24 years of age.”
Some of these diseases are incurable, like HIV and
herpes. What a pitiful thing that is, young people who have their whole lives
affected, physically and spiritually, by the Godless culture of the schools
that their parents willingly send them to.
I have a suggestion. As A & F brings out their
new shirts and the public schools are filled with that smut, I think a great homeschool activity is to have the Christian students make
shirt designs of their own. There are sites such as Café Press where you can
create your own design on a tee shirt, sweat shirt or hoodie.
One of our daughters did that a few years ago. She designed a hoodie that had ARMY in big letters on the front, similar
to the US Army logo. Above that it said, “I’m a soldier in God’s” (ARMY.) Then
on the back of the shirt she had printed, “You therefore must endure hardship
as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” 2 Timothy 2:3. The design is really
catching. At first it looks like an ARMY shirt, then
you read the rest of it. She did a great job designing it, all of it her own
choosing.
Of course, you can go out and buy shirts with
Christian slogans on them, but that is not at all the same as having your homeschool students design their own. These self designed shirts
cost more than just buying one at a local store, but it’s not a bad deal
considering it’s a one of a kind. What a tremendous contrast that is: public
schools full of Awful & Filthy shirts and homeschoolers wearing their
self-designed shirts, upholding God and good.
