If Tiger Would, Who Wouldn’t?

Apparently Tiger Woods would, when he shouldn’t have.

Tiger has earned over a billion dollars from his golf career. He is one of the greatest golfers ever. He is married to a beautiful Swedish woman. And he is persistently, perturbingly dissatisfied with his life.

Tiger Woods had an accident in the early morning hours recently where he backed out of his driveway, ran over a fire hydrant and then into a tree in a neighbor’s yard. He wasn’t drunk or stoned, but he was disturbed. After that accident revelations began coming out about Tiger’s adulterous amorous activities. It seems now that this has been going on for some time with multiple accomplices, and has been ignored by the media. We assume that his wife got tired of ignoring them herself and that led to Tiger toppling the fire hydrant and ramming the tree at 2:30 in the morning.

You see, Tiger has it all and he always wants more.

There is a hole in the soul that money cannot fill, that lovers cannot cover, and that stuff cannot soothe. Humans are inherently incomplete, dissatisfied and self destructive.

Humanism is the view that humans are the highest creatures in existence; that there is no God above them and that humans are the closest thing there is to being a god. Humanism believes that humans can accomplish anything, if they just believe in themselves.

Humanism is the ultimate form of arrogance, conceit, idolatry and self deception. It also totally contradicts what God says of people.

Pro 28:26 World English Bible

One who trusts in himself is a fool; but one who walks in wisdom is kept safe.

Ecc 9:3 World English Bible

…the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

Jer 17:9 English Standard Version

(9) The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?

God says that people are full of evil and desperately sick. If people were inherently good, then after six thousand years of history, they would have been able to eliminate war. Not only have humans not gotten rid of war, they have only made it worse. In their search for the ultimate in killing, they have developed the capacity to destroy all humans on the face of the earth, by several different methodologies.

And if people are inherently good, then the more they have, the better they would be. They would be freed from material constraints to express their spiritual sacredness. The popular belief of humanism is that human problems are caused by deprivation and poverty. However, often those who are wealthiest are the most degenerate. In fact, humans have developed a proverb about this: power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. If people were good, then the more power they had, the better they would be. The reverse is true. The more power people have, the worse they are.

Wealth and fame is power. Tiger Woods is the most famous athlete in the world. He has made more money than almost anybody. Instead of being satisfied with his wealth and beautiful wife, he risked it all because of animal like lusts that lurked inside him. He plays so intelligently on the golf course, yet in his private life he has acted like a caddish streetwalker. He has apparently hooked up with different women of no great character and exposed himself in ways that were sure to be discovered. It’s not as if he had a moment of weakness, like King David with Bathsheba. Tiger has had a life full of weakness.

Why did Tiger do that? The media are full of articles asking that question, and giving their different answers. Often they say we are descended from animals and that’s why we act like animals. I’m sure that does not give Tiger’s wife much comfort in her extreme distress.

Why did Tiger do that? Surely Tiger is asking himself that question over and over. “How could I be such a fool?” he must have thought repeatedly. All those women who once seemed so attractive have turned against him like a pack of vultures pecking road kill. Ultimately they don’t care any more about him than he does about them, yet he destroyed the happiness of the woman who loves him for all those women who don’t.

Why did Tiger do that?

Because that’s the way Tiger is. That’s the way people are.

Rom 8:5-7 Good News Bible

(5) Those who live as their human nature tells them to have their minds controlled by what human nature wants. Those who live as the Spirit tells them to, have their minds controlled by what the Spirit wants.

(6) To be controlled by human nature results in death; to be controlled by the Spirit results in life and peace.

(7) And so people become enemies of God when they are controlled by their human nature; for they do not obey God's law, and in fact they cannot obey it.

People naturally do what Tiger did. The more wealth and power they have, the more likely they are to be corrupt. They naturally break God’s law, and that ultimately results in death.

It seems like such a small thing to teach humanism in the schools instead of teaching God. That is the difference, though, between self indulgence and self denial, between being led by human nature and God’s spirit, and ultimately between death and life.

There is a hole in the soul that money cannot fill, that lovers cannot cover, and that stuff cannot soothe. Humans are inherently incomplete, dissatisfied and self destructive. Only the Creator of humans can fill that need.

There is coming a time when the government will try to force Christian homeschoolers and Christian schools to teach evolution and humanism instead of Christ. To some that may seem like only a small, technical change, with little effect. It is not. That is an enormous change. The Christians who have allowed their children to be taught humanism in the public schools thought it was a small thing, but it changed America. About a century ago schools began to teach evolution and humanism in the government schools, and almost all Christian parents went along with that, though they disagreed with it. They sowed the wind and we now reap the whirlwind, with a nation that has turned against God and is full of distress and destruction.

When the government tries to force you to make that change, Christian homeschoolers, don’t do it. No matter what, don’t do it. Always teach your children that they need God and without Him they are desperately sick, like so many we see around us.
